Gender Gap in 2012 Election Coverage Is Huge [Infographic]

A new infographic from 4th Estate shows that the vast majority of 2012 election coverage by the media is guilty of leaving women out of the conversation about women’s issues. Check out the infographic below where you’ll see that on issues related directly to women like birth control and women’s rights, print media quotes women far less frequently than men.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter which media organization or which news outlet you look at, one thing stays the same — men are quoted anywhere from approximately 66%-80% of the time.

To make matters worse, the other quotes don’t just come from women. They come from organizations. Women are only quoted around 20% of the time. Even news organizations that quote women on women’s issues more frequently only do so about half of the time or less. Take a look at the infographic below for all of the specifics.
