NEWS AND INSIGHTS UPDATE:

Studies show that girls perform better in all-female schools, but should there be all-female business schools? Cathy E. Minehan, dean of the all-female Simmons College School of Management, thinks so.

Melissa Korn of The Wall Street Journal interviewed Minehan and shared this quote from the dean:

“In a coed environment, ‘male leadership roles remain unchallenged, and women are left with ‘play the game our way, or go home,’ she says.”

Seems like a step away from closing the gender gap in business to me. What do you think?

Being a Simmons Alum and a women entrepreneur, I can honestly say I see both sides of this discussion. However, because I have experienced Simmons and how their classes run, I have to say it is that school that empowered me and does so for many women. Because there are only women in most of the classes is allows for a different experience that is not always available in a co-ed environment and allows women who may have remained wallflowers in that experience to feel more comfortable speak up and become stronger and more confident.
