[...] Your Product or Service: How to Price it Right (Women on Business). “The actual sales price is just a number. However, the item is essentially priceless — it could be worth $5 or $5000, depending on how valuable that item is to its owner. Any visit to Christie’s or Sotheby’s will convince you of the varying price that someone is willing to pay for a particular item.” [...]

You have some very good points about pricing in this article. I'll tell you, pricing work for artists is a forever challenge. Some artists have a flat per-square-inch rate they use for paintings and then do a percentage increase each new year. Other artists vastly under-price and others vastly over-price. The past couple of years has been very difficult for local working artists. More and more have had to turn to teaching to augment lost sales, and/or to offering prints and notecards. More and more art shows/festivals are turning into non-sales events with potential customers just strolling as though the event were an outdoor art museum. I personally know a few artists who pulled out of all shows for this year...it costs money to enter and pay booth fees. Anyway...this is a great topic and you offered good points for thought.
