NEWS AND INSIGHTS UPDATE:

According to a recent survey of 300 women entrepreneurs, 23% of women entrepreneurs left their secure, well-paying corporate jobs and struck out on their own to escape what they believed to be a toxic culture in the corporate world.

Furthermore, 68% of those women entrepreneurs who left corporate jobs claim they would not return to corporate life even though they make less money as entrepreneurs.

Wendy Kerr explains on the Women Unlimited website that there six elements that occur in corporate environments which create the toxic culture female entrepreneurs long to escape:

  • Politics
  • Poor leadership
  • Opaque decision-making
  • Limited communication
  • Micromanagement
  • Values clash between the individual and the company

Another 21% of the survey respondents indicated that they left the corporate world and started their own businesses in an effort to gain more autonomy and control their own destinies.
