The 3 Best College Degrees to Go for in 2020

Brought to you by Going Ivy:

The job market is an ever changing thing. As new industries open up, there comes a demand for people to enter relevant jobs, and there’s usually a shortage of qualified people.

That means pay and benefits are usually good as companies try to entice the right candidates.

If you’re just starting out your higher education or you’re heading back to school to change careers, it pays to select the right degree to take advantage of these shortages.

Unless you’re dead set on a particular degree, you may want to be flexible and study for a degree that will lead to a well paying job right out of college. The overall trend is in healthcare related fields, so if you’re interested in that, then look into getting into biology or medical school. Check out Going Ivy for admissions consulting to get into the right school.

To help you decide, here is a list of the best degrees to go for to land an in-demand job for the near future.

1. Physician Assistant

If you already have a bachelor’s degree, then getting a Master of Science in a medical-related specialty will help you land a job as a physician assistant.

Your job would be to assist a physician in treating patients. There are specializations like emergency, surgery, or primary care in which you’ll perform exams, review medical history, and make a diagnosis.

The field is expected to grow by 37% from 2016 to 2026, which means a job is almost guaranteed after your studies.

The average salary is around $108,000 per year.

2. Statistician

Are you a math wiz? Love crunching numbers? If so, being a statistician is probably your dream job and you may never have even thought of doing it.

A statistician analyzes data and applies mathematical models and statistical techniques to try to solve logistical problems facing many industries.

The areas that most need a statistician are in the medical and business fields. Those fields have complex problems and somebody that can take the raw data and come up with a plan is much needed.

You’ll also need a Master of Science to qualify for this job. If you’re going for an undergraduate degree, look into a science-related topic that you can then use alongside your master’s to ensure you’re in demand.

Salaries average around $90,000 per year.

3. Information Security Analyst

As hackers become more sophisticated with their techniques, it’s more important than ever for companies to shore up the security of online data.

This makes a security analyst indispensable. And with so many people in STEM fields opting to be software engineers, there is a shortage of qualified people to handle important security responsibilities.

You can get this job with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science with a concentration in a related field. Getting a Masters in Business Administration will help even more.

The average salary is around $100,000.
