The Chic Entrepreneur by Elizabeth Gordon – A Review

April 19, 2008 By Susan Gunelius

I was lucky enough to get a copy of The Chic Entrepreneur from author Elizabeth Gordon, which I’m very happy to review here on Women On Business. First, this book is written just the way I like books and how I like to write my own. It’s very straightforward and easy to read. Let’s face it. Businesspeople are very busy. Longwinded business books that are overflowing with jargon and buzz words are useless to me. I don’t have time to sort through the BS to get to the meat of the book. I find myself saying, “Just get to the point.” The Chic Entrepreneur gets right to the point and delivers numerous specific and useful tips, suggestions and theories that readers can implement immediately – again, just the way I like it.

Not only is The Chic Entrepreneur easy to read and understand, but it’s also fun to read. Elizabeth Gordon and her co-author, Leanna Adams, inject a sassy voice into what could be another boring business book about entrepreneurship. The Chic Tips and How Chic Are You? sections that are included in each chapter give the book added dimension by communicating essential business and marketing concepts in a creative way.Â

For example, I’m a marketing person, so I’m really into branding. When I read the following question in the How Chic Are You? section of the second chapter, I knew Elizabeth Gordon knows her stuff:

“Can someone tell immediately what you do upon entering your place of business or your website? Don’t make your passion a secret. Make sure the essence of your business comes through loud and clear.”

If you’ve ever read my branding blog, you already know how important it is to define your brand position and image then deliver on that promise in every message that comes from your business.

In short, if you’re an entrepreneur or small business owner, then I highly recommend this book. In fact, I think just about any businesswoman could learn (or at least be reminded of) some things from The Chic Entrepreneur.
