11 Clever Things to Do with Your Old Blog Posts

May 30, 2017 By Jennifer Mitchell

old blog posts

If you’ve been blogging for a while, you probably have a large archive of posts. While your old blog posts may have been popular at first, they’re now gathering dust. After you spent so much time working on your posts, it’s a shame that they’re not getting any attention. Your great blog posts deserve a second chance to get seen by a wide audience.

But how can you make people read your old blog posts? You need to make your old blog posts fresh and interesting. Here are 11 clever things you can do with your old blog posts.

1. Update Old Posts

When you look over your old blog posts, you may realize they’re looking a little stale. While they may have been up-to-date when you wrote them, things can change quickly. You don’t want readers to come across outdated information on your site.

Breathe new life into these old posts by updating them with the newest information. Add new statistics, new examples, and new images. Make sure to mention they’ve been updated so readers will know the posts are worth reading.

2. Make a Roundup Post

Roundup posts are another way to bring attention to your old blog posts. Roundup posts list your best posts in a certain category. While making a list of your own posts may seem lazy, it’s actually good for your readers. For new readers, roundup posts are a good way to catch up on important posts from the past. For regular readers, roundup posts are an opportunity to revisit favorite posts.

3. Make an Infographic

Many people are visual learners. They may not like reading long blog posts, but they’ll enjoy clear infographics. By turning your old blog posts into infographics, you expose the information to a brand-new audience. Sites like Canva make it easy for non-designers to make attractive infographics.

4. Create an E-Book

If you’ve written a series of blog posts about the same topic, consider turning them into an e-book. Some people like reading longer content, so e-books will appeal to them. You could also use your e-books as lead magnets. Since blog posts can become outdated over time, make sure to refresh them before you combine them into an e-book.

5. Create a Slide Deck

Slide decks are another way to get more mileage out of old blog posts. You can create a PowerPoint presentation based on your blog post, and then upload the slides to SlideShare. Slide decks are meant to provide a quick overview of a topic, so stick to the main points of your blog post, not every detail.

6. Record a Podcast

Podcasts are more popular then ever. If you want to take advantage of this trend, consider turning your old blog posts into a podcast. This will appeal to people who are auditory learners, exposing your posts to a brand-new audience.

7. Hold a Live Webinar

Your old blog posts can also inspire a live webinar. Live webinars can bring attention to your business and boost your thought leadership. Some topics can be confusing when they’re explained in blog posts. By holding a webinar, you’ll give your audience the opportunity to ask you questions directly.

8. Create a Video

Videos are another way to get more use out of your old blog posts. If you record your live webinar, you could post the video on YouTube or on your website to let more people see it. You could also create a new video from scratch based on the information in your blog posts.

9. Repost Them on Other Sites

Did you know some sites will let you republish your old blog posts? Your blog posts get seen by a new audience, and you don’t have to do any extra work. On sites like LinkedIn, Medium, or Quora, you can republish your whole post and find a new audience.

10. Create an Email Series

If you’ve written a series of posts on the same topic, they could be turned into a daily email series. This gives your subscribers a lot of helpful information in one place, and gives you an opportunity to get new subscribers.

11. Create Social Media Posts

Old blog posts can also be turned into social media posts. All you need is a great quote from your blog post and an attractive image, and you have a winning social media post.

While you probably shared the posts to social media when they were new, don’t be scared to share them again. Your social media followers may have missed the posts the first time. If they saw them originally, they may have forgotten.

Update, Repurpose or Republish Old Blog Posts

Your old blog posts are a valuable resource. After spending so much time creating your archive of blog posts, don’t let them go to waste. Update, repurpose, or republish your old posts to give them a second chance to be seen by your audience.
