Simple Ways to Make Your Workplace More Secure

For many businesses, security is a real issue. Potential thieves know that if they can gain access to a company’s premises, they can walk away with a lot of valuable goods. Even the IT hardware small firms own is tempting for a thief. Fortunately, there are a number of fairly easy ways to improve the security of your business premises.

Use Security Signage

Signage, such as an employees only sign, won’t cost you much to put up, but it’s incredibly effective at keeping the wrong people out. Troublemakers and thieves see this type of signage as a signal that the company takes security seriously and could have additional security features in place. As a result, they’ll usually go elsewhere when they see this type of signage.

You can also utilize CCTV, beware of the dog, and security patrol signs. It doesn’t really matter if you’re actually using any of these security measures. You just need to give the impression that you are. However, if you do decide to put up a CCTV sign, it’s a good idea to put up dummy cameras. Better still, if you can afford to do so, install a real CCTV system.

This is one of the cheapest ways to improve your security. It’s really easy to order what you need online.

Invest in Computer Locks

If your team uses computers or laptops, invest in a lock for each one. They are extremely effective.

Lock the Rest of Your Tech Away

Keep all of your expensive equipment locked up in metal cabinets that have good locks. Be sure to set up an efficient system that enables people to gain easy access to them. If you don’t do that, the cabinets will end up never being locked.

Use ID Cards

The best way to tell, at a glance, whether someone should be on your business premises or not is to require that everyone wears a security badge. Provided you make sure they’re high quality and feature something more than the logo you use on your website, your workplace will be far more secure.

These can be bought, or you can make your own using free and affordable tools like this software from Adobe. The blank cards and lanyards you need to make your own IDs are relatively easy to buy online, but you’ll have to invest in an ID card printer, so this is really only a good option for larger firms.

Train Everyone in Security Awareness

It’s important that your staff understands the security of their workplace is everyone’s responsibility, so train your staff properly. The more aware they are, the more likely it is that they’ll spot any issues.

Buy the Right Insurance

Make sure that you buy the right type of insurance. Sadly, even with good security, at some point, some of your equipment, raw materials, or products could get damaged or stolen. Should that happen, you want to be sure that you’re fully covered.
