small home office

Brought to you by Homey Design Store:

The long-awaited day has come when you decided to work from home. Of course, you can sit on the couch with a laptop, but you won’t be able to work that way for a long time. Allocating an entire room for an office is not always an option. It’s at this moment that you should think about how to organize a small workplace at home so you can be as productive as possible without limiting the personal space of the other people you live with.

Following is a small selection of tips to help you organize a small home office.

The number of home offices is growing, not only because of modern technology that allows people to work from the comfort of their homes, but because of the increased volume of work that many of us take home at every opportunity.

Working from home is different from working in the office. It gives you more flexibility and comfort. Therefore, someone may initially reserve a room for an office in a new house, and someone else may use a corner for a table.

In typical apartments, there isn’t always enough space for an ordinary table of a standard size let alone an extra full-size desk or workspace. In that case, you may have to be content with a “mini” option. Creating a tiny workspace where you can sit in maximum comfort is not always easy, but here are some decor ideas and creative solutions.

Where to Stay

If saving space is the most important issue for you, you should consider all kinds of options. The workplace can be arranged in a closet, loggia, in a niche between one of the cabinets and a wall, or on a wide window sill.

Convert a forgotten corner. A small home office can be placed literally anywhere. Since there is no one-size-fits-all solution for every occasion, a little creativity should be shown when designing a workplace. Any corner, space under the stairs, a small attic, or even a large closet can be turned into an office.

In a Niche

An inconvenient niche can always be improved with a floating tabletop, thereby turning it into a useful workspace.

The Key to Success is Efficiency

In order not to waste time looking for the the things you need to do your work or jumping up from the table every 10 minutes, equip the workplace with everything you need. A whiteboard, a place for stickers and folders with documents, office supplies, and a cup of coffee – all this should be at hand.

Disguise

If you haven’t been able to find a secluded spot, it doesn’t matter. A home office can be placed in any room. If you’re concerned about your office space being an eyesore in a public part of the house, use furniture and colors that match the overall style of the room, so it won’t seem so “alien.”

And the Whole Table is Not Enough

Not enough space to fit everything you need on your desk? Hinged open shelves or shelving in front of the table will help solve this problem.

Smart Decor that Saves Space

When designing small home offices, it’s important to use furniture that doesn’t take up much floor space. Since space is limited, it needs to be used to its fullest. A table that can be folded against the wall when not needed, hanging shelves, wall cabinets, and so on are great solutions.

Sunny Accents

A monochrome workspace won’t seem boring and impersonal when supplemented with a few colorful accents. For this purpose, choose rich yellow shades that will not only fill the room with a sunny mood, but also improve your concentration.

Scandinavian Restraint

If you’re used to the fact that a creative mess is the norm in the workplace of your apartment, learn from the Scandinavians who have the unique ability to find a place for each thing. The less chaos and clutter there is on the surface of the table and shelves, the more spacious the room will look.

Oriental Flavor

If you don’t want your workplace to look too formal and office-like, think about some nonstandard solutions. A hand-embroidered vintage leather chair, a large exotic lamp, Turkish textiles, a colorful board for inspiration – and as a result, a small table has turned into a cozy corner where inspiration always hovers.

Multifunctionality

For a small bedroom, an option from the “two in one” series is perfect, when the workplace also plays the role of a bedside table.

Almost without Legs

A tabletop on transparent glass legs looks like it floats in the air. Undoubtedly, such an optical illusion will benefit any small space. The best way to find this type of table is to search for it online. Homeydesignstore.com is an online furniture store that provides a wide assortment of different furniture types and designs.

Rational Substitution

When there is very little space on the surface of the table and there is nowhere to stick a desk lamp, you can always allocate a piece of space for a slender floor lamp next to the workspace. It’s best to have it with articulated joints so it can be fixed in different positions.

Not for Claustrophobes

It’s quite possible to arrange a work corner under the stairs., The main thing is to think over not only the design of the office but also the ergonomics, so as not to bang  your head when you stand up or more around.

Under the Very Roof

It’s sometimes difficult to find suitable furniture for an attic space, but a small table with a chair will perfectly fit under the slope of the roof.

Looking for Inspiration

So your creative muse doesn’t leave you while you’re working, organize a small mood board in front of you. Ordinary metal mesh from the nearest hardware store is perfect as a base. It won’t take up a lot of needed workspace, but it will always keep you feeling inspired.

Instead of a Board for Inspiration

For inspiration, some people need to have a mood board in front of their eyes, but others prefer to hang a big picture above their worktable. Choosing a perspective image is a good trick for small apartments to visually expand the available space.

At the Mercy of the White

The workspace looks incredibly light and airy if it uses the white color palette. To that end, a great design choice is white and transparent acrylic furniture, which doesn’t visually crowd a space.

Irreplaceable Assistant

Instead of gluing reminder stickers in a variety of places, get yourself a large, clear glass magnetic whiteboard.
