Are you a hypocrite boss?

Posted by: Allison ONeill | Comments (2)

Should this letter be addressed to you? Bosses may have it a bit tough sometimes – always being the ‘bad guy’, the one that needs to change. Staff aren’t perfect of course, but they are a reflection of their boss in many ways.

There is a great book called “The Wisdom of Crowds” by James Surowiecki. It basically says if you ask enough people a question you will end up with the correct answer.

Number 16 in The Boss Benchmark is about staffs unutilsed skills. It talks about doing a ’skill stocktake’ in your workplace. I’ve recently written an article about how exactly you can go about this. You can read it here (full link is http://www.thebossbenchmark.com/How%20to%20do%20a%20skill%20stocktake.doc ). If you are trying to:
* gain a deeper understanding of your staff
* increase staff happiness and engagement
* identify ways to increase productivity

Then a skill stocktake would be great for you, your staff and your workplace :)

Know all your staff really well

Posted by: Allison ONeill | Comments (3)

As a boss you may spend more time with some staff members than others. You may know a handful of staff really well, and know little about some others.

I’ve spoken time and again about LISTENING to your staff. CARING about what they say and ACTING on it.

I refuse to be negative and panicky about all this recession stuff. Sure it is impacting our world, but it is certainly not the end of it as the media can sometimes lead people to believe.
