NEWS AND INSIGHTS UPDATE:
In a $250 million transaction, Google has acquired social media marketing startup Wildfire Interactive led by founding CEO Victoria Ransom. This is a great acquisition for Google, but that’s not the most interesting part of the story. The fact that Wildfire Interactive is made up of a team that is 40% female in an industry typically dominated by men — technology — is what’s giving this story a lot of buzz.
Angie Chang of Women 2.0 shared a quote from an interview Victoria gave to Women in Technology recently:
“Victoria said ‘We have a very diverse team in terms of gender and 40% of our team is female. I think the fact that our company is led by a woman helps us to attract top-notch women, and I consider this to be one of our great strengths.’”
