Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has played a part in growing two of the biggest brands and businesses in the world — Google and Facebook. Recently, she sat down with Michal Lev-Ram of Fortune to discuss business growth.

During the discussion, Sheryl shared her three tips to build a business:

1. Think big

Sheryl explains that leaders like Mark Zuckerberg who have big and inspiring goals for their businesses motivate their teams.

2. Hire big

Sheryl says its essential to hire for more than what you need because people who are more qualified, more experienced, or right out of school but clearly over-achievers, can grow with the business and handle whatever growth demands come down the road.

3. Plan big

Plan events, celebrations, programs, and so on that can scale as the business grows. As an example, Sheryl cites the easy scalability of Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook hackathons where Facebook engineers and tech talent get together to share ideas and projects they’ve been working on independently.
