The Socialnomics of Hiring

Linked in, Facebook and Twitter all boast of their own figures in hiring statistics. Linkedin leads the way as the specialized place to be delivering a platform for companies to showcase the career page, news, updates, and career while creating a space for the candidate to promote their personal brand.

Can your business keep up?

No worries. There are social media tools like HootSuite to manage social media pages all in one dashboard. The last two years have seen more job openings for social media executives and managers than ever in history. Traditional universities are gearing up to design new courses to cater to this overwhelming new area of work.

The internet has clearly risen as the center of gravity regardless of the nature of business. Socialnomics has taken center stage. The impact that it’s had on hiring over the last few years can be seen from the figures given above. Socialnomics has been defined as “the building of a brand through the combined use of social media sites and SEO.”(urban dictionary). Here are some of the benefits:

Engage

A quick virtual visit to the career page on an employer’s website and the company’s social media pages lure the visitor to the company’s YouTube video showcasing employee testimonials, grandiose infrastructure, and cool perks.

Connect

Candidates can visit Linkedin and see real and current updates from the company. The career page allows the prospective candidate to connect and interact with the recruiting manager virtually.

Opportunity

Have a dream job with a dream company? Candidates can follow the company on Twitter and jump at opportunities that get tweeted. All of this is at the click of a button!

Collaborate

Manage your career and/or hiring aspirations all while managing multiple social media accounts through a single platform. Companies can use social media intelligence, industry analytics, market research and competitive news through platforms like Gagein.

Brand

Create your own web page and blog, and use them to showcase your talent all in a single page. Show your serious side and lighter side depending on how you choose to project yourself through your blog. Create freestyle content without punching in a single code with free services like about.me

Optimize

Thinking of getting ahead in page ranking? Whether you are the candidate or business, make use of web tools like that improve your search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine reputation management (SERP) efforts and gather intelligence on SEO content.

Search Bars

Still heckling your brain into writing your own search strings to find the best talent? Get your recruiting team on board with a recruiting sourcing tool bar to get maximum results in advanced internet researching techniques.

It’s not always rosy and positive. Watch what you put out there. Socialnomics could have a significant impact on hiring decisions. Almost all hiring managers check social profiles before they send out the offer letters. Mediabistro reported that one out of three hiring managers rejected candidates based on what they found out on social media. Ouch! So if you are not getting interview calls despite a strong profile, experience and subject knowledge, check if your social media reputation and activity are to blame. Be responsible and make Socialnomics work in your favor.
